The difference between Jam, Marmalade and Magiun

When you walk into our shop, you're often curious to know the difference between jam and preserves. We don't produce preserves, but we thought we'd tell you about marmalade and ”magiun”!

Jam is a classic preparation made by boiling fruit with sugar, often keeping the bits of fruit that give texture and flavor. It is sweet, fragrant and versatile, being perfect to accompany pancakes, a breakfast or a dessert.

Unlike jam, marmalade is prepared mainly from citrus fruits, using both their pulp and peel. After a slow boil with water and sugar, a dense, slightly bitter, but extremely aromatic consistency is obtained.

”Magiun” is perhaps the most traditional of all these dishes. Made from fully ripe fruit, usually plums, ”magiun” has a fine and homogeneous consistency, and is often prepared without added sugar. It is a paste rich in natural flavors, which preserves all the sweetness of the fruit, perfect to be enjoyed on a slice of fresh bread.
